The Schnase 1906 District is both a nonprofit organization and a building. The building will serve as a hub for innovation and a one-stop, full-service location for aspiring and existing entrepreneurs, startups, and small businesses. In addition to a unique work environment through coworking and incubator space, our nonprofit will offer business coaching and planning services, entrepreneurial programming, and provide an environment dedicated to developing local talent and encouraging the formation of startups.
The Schnase 1906 District will include a variety of individual workspaces, collaboration areas, a content creation studio, and a large conference room. In total, we anticipate the Schnase 1906 District building and staff will be able to serve up to fifty users between the two levels of the space.
Our story
The conversation of a coworking and incubator space started many years ago. Entrepreneurial success happened in some cases by happenstance and some in a more procedural fashion. As we took a deeper look at continued economic growth, it became apparent that an investment in human capital was essential in Hastings. What if we made a concerted effort to create a community where entrepreneurship was expected, supported, and celebrated? From that came this project.
At the same time, the Hastings Community Foundation was looking for a new location. With growing assets and a higher community profile, it was time to find a home with visibility that was equal to our community impact.
Despite different missions, the two organizations shared one simple and common goal: to proactively position our community for future growth. In 2020, community stakeholders (logos noted below) made a commitment to see this space come to fruition. The Hastings Community Foundation has served as an advocate and leader to the nonprofit community for more than 35 years. By supporting the Schnase 1906 District (a 501c3 organization), the building project was obtainable for both organizations.
This collaborative partnership ensures efficiency of shared resources and reduces the financial burden to both organizations. Working together allows for small business and entrepreneurial development, local job creation, philanthropic leadership and a community for creativity, innovation, and growth - all under one roof.
